My copy of Year One came in today! I’ve been meaning to buy it for months now and finally decided a couple weeks to drop the money on it. I also snagged a copy of her collaboration with Liz Prince and a couple other illustrators about the “trials and tribulations of OKCupid.” It is perfectly spot on, and I reccomend all of you look into getting yourself a copy of both! Ramsey even included in my package a preview of her new project, Little Fish—which will easily be something I pre-order…it’s a book of her incredible illustrations, lists and journal-entries (pulled from her real livejournal) about transitioning into her life away at college—an art school in Baltimore. I love the concept for so many reasons. I’m incredibly inspired by her work and feel like I may start drawing again like I did a bit last year…I initially stumbled upon her year-one work as I was getting to a better place for myself after processing a rough year with my family. It felt productive and creative, but I tend to have a short attention span with such endeavors (making Ramsey’s work even more admirable). I relate to much of her stories and love her style, here’s to riding the inspiration wave, even if only for a while.

I’m in my last 150 copies of the first print run of Year One. I don’t know what my plans are for doing a reprint after they’re gone! Check it out on my etsy if you’re still interested.

Behold this cute comic from the very talented Kelly Bastow. It’s true that she very excitedly proclaimed that she was me, and it was the highlight of my TCAF (well, besides when a toddler looked at me and burst out crying). Behold THE INFINITE CORPSE, a jam comic started in secret over a year ago by Aaron Renier, Nate Beaty and the other cartoonists of Chicago’s comics collective Trubble Club. Based on a combination of Raw’s Narrative Corpse project and Scott McCloud’sidea of the “infinite canvas,” it’s a kind of exquisite corpse comic focused around the skeleton Corpsey. There are already 200+ cartoonists who’ve participated (Art Spiegelman, Alison Bechdel, Pen Ward, Carol Tyler, Ivan Brunetti, Lilli Carré etc etc etc) and now it is open to everyone. So go, read! This weekend I’ll be in Portland, OR for Stumptown Comics Festival! It’s my first time doing this fest and I’m pretty excited about it.

I’ll be sharing a table with Liz Prince! So come say hello.

Dates and times of the show:

The 2013 Stumptown Comics Fest takes place April 27 & 28, 2013.
10am to 6pm on Saturday, the 27th.
12pm to 6pm on Sunday, the 28th.

Cost of entry:

$10 a day or $15 for a weekend pass.
Students with valid student high school or college ID - $7 a day or $12 for a weekend pass.
Children 12 and under are Free (when accompanied by ticket-buying parent or guardian).

Ramsey and I will both have copies of the new punk anthology AS YOU WERE: it’s one of the first places you can pick it up!

I bowl with my teammates on Thursday for the National Abortion Access Bowl-A-Thon. Stoked!
